English Teaching (Child Development Center) Trip code: THA3
With the growth of tourism and industrial development in Thailand, the demand for English speaking citizens is also on the rise. Both primary and secondary schools in Thailand are struggling to meet this growing demand for English education. Rustic Volunteer Travel’s Teaching English program in Thailand offers an opportunity for volunteers/travelers to implement their own teaching programs and observe how their program works within the Thai community structure. Volunteers/travelers can benefit by supplying these children with much-needed expertise in conversational English as well as provide a solid foundation to meet their needs, nurture their interests and ultimately make them attractive in Thailand’s growing job market.

| Project/Volunteer's Life: |
Volunteers will teach English to the students of primary and lower secondary schools for five (5) days a week, Monday to Friday. Apart from this, volunteers will also encourage the students to take part in extracurricular activities and organize sport-related activities. Volunteers will teach practical, conversational English by telling stories, playing games, performing plays, etc. Volunteers will also teach specific vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. A supervisor at each school will be assigned to help develop teaching lessons
Volunteers working in secondary schools can also teach other languages in addition to English depending upon the school. There are sometimes approximately 10 teachers in the foreign language department. However, only 1-2 teachers may speak English well or properly. Others simply translate the stories, and teach grammar/structural English. Therefore, there is a lack of conversational English. The presence of native, English-speaking volunteers will create an environment where the children will learn and speak English. In Thailand , teachers hold very respectable positions often resulting in an overwhelming receipt of the love by the students and their parents. |

| Skills and Qualification |
Though no teaching experience or skill is needed, volunteers joining English-teaching projects should have a mastery of the English language as well as speak properly. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion and love for children |

| Project Locations: |
English Teaching projects are available in Bangkok (capital city; notable attractions such as the Grand Palace, Democracy Monument, Giant Swing, Sanam ) Known for Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, the culture of Thailand incorporates a great deal of influence from India, China, and the rest of southeast Asia. Like most Asian cultures, respect towards ancestors is an essential part of Thai spiritual practice. Thais have a strong sense of hospitality and generosity, but also a strong sense of social hierarchy.
Volunteers can organize different possible excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during weekends. For example: waterfalls, lakes, caves, buffalo/ elephant ride, trekking, adventurous rafting, visits to local handicraft outlets, temples, palaces, wats, hotels, and many more.
