Work in Orphanage
Trip code: TZA1

Tanzania is a country affected by extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS and lack of opportunities for orphan kids. Most of the orphanages in Tanzania are greatly lacking in resources and are under-staffed, resulting in a constant struggle to run, maintain and possibly improve their programs. Presently, Rustic Volunteer Travel has been collaborating with 7 orphanages to provide the best efforts to support these orphanages by sending volunteers, making donations, and supporting other related programs/activities. There are many areas where volunteers can apply their individual education, expertise, and time in order to make a meaningful, lasting contribution in the rather shattered lives of these orphaned children in Tanzania . Orphanage work is a great way volunteers/travelers can share their love, passion, and help as it is given to people who need it most.

Project/Volunteer's Life:

As a volunteer in the orphanage project in Tanzania , you will teach English (3-4 hours a day) in the orphanage or school (when the kids go to schools during the day). You will teach kids about personal hygiene by helping them in brush their teeth, shower etc. During free time (mostly in evening), you organize games, participate in drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative educational and extracurricular activities. Also during the evening, you will assist with homework, monitor academic progress, and monitor the completion of their next day's assignments. If you do not want to teach in the school during day time, then you can offer to take care of the children who stay at the orphanage (who cannot go to school). Your help is also expected in dressing of kids, food distribution, kitchen, garden, cleaning and administrative work.

There are no specific qualifications needed to join the orphanage volunteer project in Tanzania . However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient. You should have passion and love for children and believe you can act as a healthy role model.

Project Locations:

Orphanage projects are available in Dar es Salaam (home to Kaole Ruins, Botanic Gardens and Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve), Moshi (Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park) and Arusha (close to Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro and Great Rift Valley). Tanzania is renowned for its beautiful natural landscapes and its fused African culture with more than 120 different ethnic groups. Tanzania is full of distinction; from it rural traditional culture and history to its modern infrastructure and amenities you would expect from any city.

Volunteers/travelers can organize several combinations of potential excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place that the volunteers can use during weekends. For example: national parks & harbors, snorkeling, markets, museums, restaurants, nightclubs, gardens, waterfalls, mountains, Eco Tours, craters beaches, hotels, and many more.
