My volunteer experience in Moshi, Tanzania at Upendo Orphanage for my first week, and then teaching pre-kdg. and kindergarten with Sister Ann Caroline in the kindergarten building my second week, was wonderful! I met so many great people there - staff and fellow volunteers. We became close in a short amount of time, because we are all there for a common purpose = the children. Ava, and her sister, Rosie, our hosts at The White Gate (nickname for our host home in Moshi), are loving, caring, happy ladies, who took such good care of all of us while we were there! Ava is an excellent cook, and I told her she could have her own restaurant someday! While there, I was able to take three sightseeing trips to the Njoro Forest (Rau), the Ndoro Waterfalls, and to the Kikuletwa Hot Springs. I enjoyed all of them, and the day before I left, enjoyed the Kikuletwa water before eating our sack lunch, and swam afterwards again, with two volunteer friends. It was the perfect ending to my Tanzania Miniquest! That evening all of us volunteers at White Gate ate dinner out in Moshi, since I was leaving early that next morning. I miss everyone I met, but may see them again down the Rustic Road - you never know :)! |
