Tanzania Environmental Projects
Trip code: TZA7

Deforestation has been quite challenging to Tanzania’s forest ecosystem. With the growing demand for energy in Tanzania, the rate of deforestation is likely to accelerate other ecological/environmental problems. Increasing population is exerting pressure upon the region, forcing the disintegration of the environment as people continue to cut trees in order to meet their fuel and construction-based needs. KIWAMA (community based group) has devised a proposal of conservation of land and water through self-initiative programs. Rustic Volunteer Travels and its partners want volunteers/travelers who are environmental enthusiasts and are committed to environment conservation and, moreover, who are willing to devote their time and wealth to ensure the program's success. Volunteers/travelers will have the unique opportunity to be a part of something that will benefit the region as well as its next generation.

Project/Volunteer's Life:

As a volunteer, you will work with KIWAMA, a community-based group dedicated to the conservation of forests. However, you will mostly work in a nursery which aims to produce indigenous tree species. Volunteers' work include preparing nursery beds, sowing seeds, weeding, trimming, pruning, thinning various indigenous tree species, distributing tree seeds to villagers, and other additional tasks may include: planting, collecting seeds, replanting, eliminating diseased trees and inventorying of fauna and flora depending on the season
