Volunteer and Travel Tour in Sri Lanka

Language and Cultural Immersion Program - Sri Lanka
Trip code: LKA7

The program enables volunteers to intrinsically learn about Sri Lanka before starting their volunteer programs. The 7-day program is designed to give our volunteers a glimpse into life in Sri Lanka and what the mentality of the people is like, and how you can overcome any hurdles you might encounter while in Sri Lanka. You'll learn the Sinhalese language, so you can communicate effectively, tour historic, cultural and religious sites and learn about the prevailing socioeconomic and political situation. It's an intriguing program full of insight into daily life in Sri Lanka.

Tentative Schedule

Days Program Brief
Day 1: A short reception will be held at the office of Rustic Volunteer. An orientation program will follow in which you’ll learn about the current situation in Sri Lanka. You’re encouraged to ask about anything that you think will be helpful during your stay in Sri Lanka. Our knowledgeable staff will answer all your queries. You’ll also be given a schedule of how your cultural program will proceed.
Day 2: Start of Sinhalese language classes. Although English is widely understood in Sri Lanka, the many poor and uneducated people of Sri Lanka only speak and understand Sinhalese and you’ll be interacting and working with these people. You’ll start your program with popular expressions and words.  In the afternoon, you’ll head to the beaches to enjoy the sun, sand, and the waves.
Day 3: More language class will follow in the morning with afternoon set aside for exploration. You’ll explore on foot local villages, farms and try to interact with local people.
Day 4: Your full day of sightseeing. You’ll visit Yala Wildlife park where you can see plenty of animals, including leopards and elephants.
Day 5: More language class in the morning. In the afternoon, you can watch a Sinhalese movie or go out on your own to enjoy the beach.
Day 6: You’ll continue with your language class. Visit fishing communities in the afternoon and observe their activities. Talk and interact with them and learn about their lifestyle.
Day 7: Last day of the program – there will be a small appraisal and your strengths and weaknesses in the language you’ve just learned with be evaluated. Remember this is not a test and you won’t fail or pass. You’ll also have time to explore Galle.  Also, during the language instruction, your tutor will be passing on valuable information about Sri Lanka, the prevailing cultural practices, and the dos and the don’ts.

The schedule is subject to change depending upon local situations. Our country coordinator will provide you the accurate schedule during the orientation program.
