Street Children/Youth at Risk
Trip code: ZAF3

This Street Children/Youth at Risk program is designed for kids that are walking on the streets and children that have become bad seeds. They involve themselves in drugs, stealing, robbing and other types of criminal mischief. They all have one major thing in common; these are mostly children with no parents. Rustic Volunteer Travel works with local partners with the goal of helping disadvantage children get into the school routine, give them support, and to show them that there is hope for them. Volunteers are sought to help build their self esteem and give them something they desperately need: love, care, and skills

Project/Volunteer's Life:

As a volunteer you will help children with homework and teaching basic conversational English. You will support recreational and artistic activities with the objective of educational learning, help kids with their gardens, organize and develop sports activities, provide support in the kitchen/helping to serve lunch in the dining room and assist in location-specific duties - routine maintenance, construction, etc. Street Children Project in South Africa also runs life skills courses, performing arts, career development, leadership training, and entrepreneurial skills. It also runs a Day Care Centre providing education and a vegetable garden as an income source.

Skills and Qualification

There is no specific qualification needed to join the orphanage volunteer project. However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patience. You should have passion and love for children/orphans.

Meals/Accommodations:

Rustic Volunteer Travel manages room/food for volunteers. Volunteers live with the host family and we manage a separate/shared, simple, clean and modest room as well as local meals three times a day. Volunteer will also have an access to our office in South Africa and mobile number of our coordinators. Our staffs also visit volunteers in each 2-4 week interval as a part of the program. Head of the host project serves as an immediate contact/supervisor. Details covering living accommodations provided prior to arrival.

Project Locations:

Street Children projects are available in Cape Town (home to Table Mountain, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, and City Bowl). South Africa's multicultural metropolitan cities are renowned for its deep rooted African cultural atmosphere where visitors are always welcomed. It's full of contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern infrastructure and most of the amenities you would expect from a city. Volunteers can organize several combinations of potential excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place that the volunteers can use during weekends. For example: national parks & harbors, hiking, markets, museums, restaurants, nightclubs, festivals/carnivals, wine tasting, art galleries, whale watching, beaches, hotels, and many more.
