Peru Orphanage Work Orphanage Project
Trip code: PER1

The orphanages in Peru aim to offer homes, educations, and hope for orphans. However, they are understaffed and need virtually any and all assistance possible in continuing to offer these vitally important activities. Rustic Volunteer Travel’s orphanage program is the perfect place for volunteers/travelers looking for opportunities to share their love, passion, and skills with these very-unfortunate children. Volunteers/travelers can benefit by supplying these orphans with much-needed love and companionship as well as a solid foundation to meet their needs and nurture their interests, goals and ultimately make their dreams for a brighter future come to fruition.

Project/Volunteer's Life:

As a volunteer in orphanage project, participants teach English (3-4 hours a day) in either the orphanage or school. Volunteers will also help kids to dress properly and reach school safely. Volunteers may also organize games, art lessons, singing, dancing, as well as other creative, educational and extra-curricular activities for the children. This may include training a group in sports, teaching arts and crafts, organizing inter-school football matches, playing music, as well as teaching subjects such as mathematics, world affairs, hygiene, and nutrition. In the evening, volunteers help the children complete their assignments, monitor academic progress, and assure children complete next day's homework. Some participants will assist in the care of the children who cannot yet attend school as well as lend a hand through food distribution, kitchen work, and garden maintenance. Additional help in cooking, day trips, and administration can be expected.

Project Locations:

Orphanage projects are available in Cusco (Peru 's most enigmatic city and capital of Inca empire), Urubamba (The “ Pearl of the Vilcanota”, located in Peru 's lush Sacred Valley), Trujillo (home to the Floral Spring Festival, Chimu mud city of Chan Chan), Arequipa (The “ White City ”; Peru 's second largest city and home to the Misti volcano), Lima (Peru 's capital city, Lomas de Lachay, Plaza de Armas) and Huancayo (A busy commercial and tourist city in the Mantaro Valley). Known for being creative and also hard-working people, most Peruvians are great nationalists and love their country with pride (largely stemming from Peru's history as the center of both the Inca Empire and Spain's South American Empire). They are however ggenerally very friendly, peaceful and helpful. Peru is full of contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern urban infrastructure and much of the amenities you would expect from a city. Volunteers can organize different possible excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during weekends. For example: natural reserves, whitewater rafting, museums, historical mansions, famous ruins, volcanoes, canyons (larger than the Grand Canyon) markets, and many more.
