Detailed Itinerary

Day One: Cusco - Jungle Lodge - Monkey Island
Your tour starts in Cucso with a twenty-five minutes flight to Puerto Maldonado. In the city, the Madre de Dios River gently snakes its way through the place. Take a 2 hour boat ride down the river and you will arrive at the lodge.

Upon arrival, enjoy sumptuous lunch with a welcome cocktail and relax in the bungalow afterwards. You will visit Monkey Island in the afternoon. The place is just 5-minute boat ride away from the Lodge. Hike through the Island and encounter tremendous variety of monkeys. Some of the monkeys you will expect to encounter are: Black Spider Monkey, Capuchin Monkey, Tamarins, Squirrel Monkey, and the South American Coati. Try giving some of them bananas. With a little bit of luck, you will see them peel the skin of the banana and gorge the fruit.

Spot caiman (alligators) at night, with a caiman-spotting tour down the Madre de Dios River.

Day Two: Discover Lost Lagoon with a Jungle Trek
Reach 'Lost Cocha'. For that, you will be involved on a four hour walk through Amazon Jungle. The place is a protected ecosystem. Giant otters, caimans, turtles, tapirs, colorful birds and diverse species of fish survive in this ecosystem. The area has also preserved immense swathes of swamps and marshes.

As you hike to 'Lost Cocha', watch jungle plants and animals during this guided tour. Learn as the guide explains about them. You will stop at Amazon Watch Tower. The Tower was built at the top of an immense Shihuahuaco tree and to reach the top, you will have to climb the spiral steps. Witness and appreciate the magical beauty of the rainforest canopy from the top of the Tower.

'Lost Cocha' is a short trip from the Watch Tower, along small wood platforms built just above the jungle marsh. It's a jungle swamp and lagoon. There, be involved in a pleasant canoe ride looking for caimans, otters, turtles and other wildlife. Then, make a 3-hour trek along another route within the Reserve, from the 'Lost Cocha' back to the Madre de Dios River, then a short boat ride back to the Lodge.

At the Lodge, you'll take a well-deserved rest in our bungalows and have lunch. In the afternoon there is an optional trip down the river to visit a local family living in the rainforest or you can just relax at the Lodge.

Day Three: Tambopata - Puerto Maldonado - Cusco

You will depart Tambopata today. Have an early morning breakfast and leave for Puerto Maldonado on boat. From Puerto Maldonado, fly back on a 25 minute hop.
