Annapurna Sanctuary Trek - 11 Days

Take a kaleidoscopic voyage through the legendary Annapurna mountain range. With a history as beautiful and vivid as its mystic landscape, this region of the Himalayas offers a 11-day trek, overpowering ones senses with gigantic and blanched glaciers, ice-flowing rivers as well as surrealistically lush forests and impossibly-existing, yet tempting, hot springs. Remote villages and tea houses filled with warmly-welcoming and smiling faces serve as daytime and overnight rest areas.

 
Detailed Itinerary

DAY ONE: Kathmandu to Pokhara
From Kathmandu , set out for Pokhara by bus (approximate 6 hour trip). In Pokhara, receive a briefing and prepare for the first leg of your Himalayan trek to begin first thing in the morning.

DAY TWO: Pokhara to Ulleri
From Pokhara, set out for the town of Naya Pul - stopping along the way at the villages of Naudanda (where permits are issued), Kanre and Lumle. Ascend a set of intricate, stone steps to Birethanthi, moving along the eastern bank of the river known as the Bhurungdi Khola. After crossing the river, voyage into Tikedungha then onto Ulleri - the day's final destination.

DAY THREE: Ulleri to Ghorepani
From Ulleri, treks the climbing trail through thickets and forests of rhododendron before making the final day's ascent to Ghorepani.

DAY FOUR: Ghorepani to Tadapani
Rise with the sun and ascend to Poon Hill (3195m) where an awe-inspiring sunrise greets you from over the mountains. Clear climate permitting, experience a magical, panoramic view of the mountains of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Annapurna I (8019m), and Manalsu (8156m). Also: views of the 6,000-meter-deep Kali Gandaki Gorge and the trans-Himalayan ranges are viewable - forming the border of Nepal with Tibetan China - making this one of Nepal 's most sought-after vantage points. From Poon Hill, the walk is all downhill through beautiful forests before finally ending the day's journey at Tadapani for an overnight stay.

DAY FIVE: Tadapani via Chhomrong to Sinuwa
From Tadapani, the trail descends through additional rhododendron and oak forests, arriving at Chhomrung around midday. Chhomrung is a Gurung Village , and the highest permanent settlement in the valley with a tremendously vast view across to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. Trek higher above the west bank of the river known as Modi Khola ending in the quaint, beautiful village of Sinuwa .

DAY SIX: Sinuwa to Deurali
From Sinuwa, set out for the town of Khuldi-ghar before making a significant descent into a rock-filled region, then a bamboo-filled gorge, passing by a river, the famous pastures of Tomoe. Within the slimming neck of the gorge, visit Panchen Barah as well as a small shrine. Finally, end your day's exciting excurstion at the town of Derauli .

DAY SEVEN: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp
From Deurali, continue trekking into the Annapurna Sanctuary - the name given to the gigantic glacial basin to the north of Pokhara. First, ascend to the Modi Khola Valley following the river to town of Bagar . From this high-elevation town, ascend even higher across a moraine and a sparkling stream to Macchapuchhere Base Camp (MBC) at a staggering elevation of approximately 3700 meters (over 12,000 feet!). Trek for an additional two hours and finally reach the Annapurna Base Camp just in time to observe the mountain sense-swirling beauty at sunset.

DAY EIGHT: Annapurna Base Camp to Sinuwa
After witnessing the Annapurna region's beauty at sunrise, journey back to Sinuwa, easily descending the same trails which were once much more difficult on the way up. End the day's descent in Sinuwa.

DAY NINE: Sinuwa to Kyumi
From Sinuwa, follow the same trail to Chhomrong, descending to the town of Jhinu - famous for its hot springs . After spending midday amongst these often-rejuvenating natural springs, descend into an awesome rift valley before concluding the day in the town of Kyumi .

DAY TEN: Kyumi to Naya Pul via Pokhara
Along a trail of often-varying elevations, journey to the still-developing village of Ghandrung - populated by an ethnic group known as the Gurung (descendants of Tibeto-Burmans who have their own distinct language as well as practice a unique form of shamanism). Continue onto Nayapul before being transported back to Pokhara for an overnight stay.

By bus, journey back to Kathmandu - ending this wonderful, life-changing voyage.
