Work for Orphans
Trip code: IND2

India is one of the developing countries in the world. Due to extreme poverty, social discrimination, hundreds of children leave their homes and arrives in big cities in search of work, food and money. Most of them end up working in restaurants, houses or companies, where they are oppressed and exploited. Rustic Volunteer Travel lends a hand to more than a dozen orphanages to help the children to secure a safe and positive life. Volunteers/travelers can play a genuine responsibility to improve the life of orphans by providing educational and extracurricular activities. Working in an orphanage is a perfect place for volunteers willing to share love, passion, and efforts for poor kids.

Project/Volunteer's Life:

As a volunteer in orphanage project, participants teach English (3-4 hours a day) in either the orphanage or school (where kids go for day schooling). Volunteers will also help kids to dress properly and reach school safely. Volunteers may also organize games, art lessons, singing, dancing, as well as other creative, educational and extra-curricular activities for the children. This may include training groups in sports, teaching arts and crafts, organizing inter-school football matches, playing music, as well as teaching subjects such as mathematics, world affairs, hygiene, and nutrition.  In the evening, volunteers help the children complete their assignments, monitor academic progress, and assure children complete next day's homework. Some participants will assist in the care of the children who cannot yet attend school as well as lend a hand through food distribution, kitchen work, and garden maintenance.

Skills and Qualification

Generally no specific qualification is required to volunteer in the orphanage project. In all in all, volunteers interested to work for orphans should have love for the children and willingness to share their passion for them.

A pluralistic, multi-lingual, and multi-ethnic society, India is also home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of protected habitats. It has managed to preserve established traditions while absorbing new customs, traditions, and ideas from invaders and immigrants.
