Volunteer/traveler duties include teaching the children English, helping orphans with homework, and organizing games and creative activities. Basic care for the children (preparing them for school in the morning, etc.) and other tasks around the centre (cooking, washing clothes) would also be needed.

There are no specific qualifications needed to join Rustic Travel's volunteer orphanage project in Guatemala. However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion and love for orphans. While Spanish is preferred it is not required.

Rustic Volunteer Travel manages room/food for volunteers. Volunteers live with the host family and we manage a separate/shared, simple, clean and modest room as well as local meals three times a day. Volunteer will also have an access to our office in Guatemala and mobile number of our coordinators. Our staffs also visit volunteers in each 2-4 week interval as a part of the program. Orphanage projects are available in Quetzaltenango (Xela). Touted for its great tasting coffee, Guatemala has a rich and distinctive culture from its long mix of elements from Spain and the native Maya people. This diverse history and the natural beauty of the land have created a destination rich in interesting and scenic sites. It's full of contrasts: from traditional culture and history to modern urban infrastructure and offers the tourist all the services and commodities as expected from any other city. Volunteers can organize different possible excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during weekends. For example: architecture, volcanoes, beautiful church ruins, zoos, museums, parks, walking tours, hiking, restaurants, hotels, and many more.
