Rustic Volunteer's Mini-Quest Ghana offers unique opportunities for participants to explore the beauty of Ghana while helping to provide much needed improvement in the lives of orphaned children.

Teach English while helping the orphaned children, help with their homework, and make sure the children are well fed and clean. Volunteers will also try to nurture the creative sides in the children by helping them in such subjects as art, as well as organize other extracurricular activities. After finishing community work, volunteers will set-out on a four day tour of gorgeous Ghana, where they will experience country's rich past as well as natural and historical wonders.

Detail Itinerary

Day Zero: Airport Pickup
Rustic's staff will receive you at the airport and transfer you to The Rustic's office.

Day One: Introduction and Orientation
Start your program with briefings which will cover important issues. Pay particular attention on children issues, field conditions, host family, safety issues, weather, working projects, and other related topics.

Day Two - Ten: Volunteer Work
You will start volunteer work. Travel to your orphanage after breakfast. You will be introduced to project staff and discuss work responsibilities and other issues. As a volunteer, you will teach English to the children and also help with cleaning, washing, playing games, homework, and organize extracurricular activities. During free time, volunteers can hike around and experience the warmth and friendliness of the people.

Day Eleven - Fourteen: Exploration of Ghana

Day Eleven: Kumasi
You will start your tour in a wonderful visit of Kumasi. You will visit Manhyia Palace Museum. You will watch a film presentation in the museum. The film with introduce you to the rich culture, history, and wealth of the Asante King. Visit the durbar of chiefs where the King of Asante sits at the Manhyia Palace to learn more about Asante chieftaincy and culture.

Day Twelve: Explore Kumasi
Around Kumasi, where famous Kente clothes are made, explore the craft villages at Bonwire (origin of Kente), Adinkra textile printing at Ntonsu, and wood carving at Ahwiaa. Each craft village has a particular claim to artistic fame. Bonwire is the capital of the Kente cloth, while Ntonso boasts the Adinkra cloth. Ahwiaa produces outstanding carved figures, including Ghana's traditional fertility doll, and Kurofuforum specializes in the casting of brass. Leave for Kukum and Cape Coast in the afternoon.

Day Thirteen: Kakum National Park
You will enjoy Kakum National Park today. The park is a semi deciduous tropical rain forest. You will enjoy a walk on one of the only four canopy walkways in the world or trek on the Kenton trail and get to know the medicinal value of the various African tree species. Visit the slave castles: Elmina Castle, the first and largest European edifice on the coast of West Africa, built in 1482, and the Cape Coast Castle, which became the seat of British colonial administration until 1877. The history of black slavery unfolds as you tour around these Castles.

Day Fourteen: Tour of Accra
The tour culminates in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. You will start the tour of the city with a visit to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. You will then move on to see Ghana's cultural history at the National Museum, and tour the home of Dr. W.E.B. Dubois, the African-American who spent the last few years of his life helping to build the foundations of a new state, Ghana. Attractions at the WEB Dubois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture include his tomb, a museum, a library, and a very interesting narration.
