As the rest of the world plays catches up to the technological levels of developed, industrialized nations, computers are not only perceived as useful source for entertainment, but as a pivotal key to better communication and an integral provider of education. Volunteers familiar with all things computer-related are very necessary and appreciated. In collaboration with numerous community-based organizations, Rustic Volunteer Travel seeks volunteers who are program-writing specialists in C++, knowledgeable in word-processing software, skilled in graphic design/lay-out programs or electrical specialists with hardware-installing abilities.

| Project/Volunteer's Life: |
Volunteers teaching computer skills to the very receptive citizens of Brazil will teach basic computer skills at a number of community-based organizations/programs. Volunteers usually assist community centers in some of the more impoverished areas of Rio de Janeiro who are usually not well-funded enough to be able to afford computer instructors. Volunteers will also help Brazilians (children and adults) to develop and perfect their conversational English and interpersonal communication skills. Volunteers will also assist these centers in installing both software and hardware for their computers as well as lend a hand in various administrative duties required.

Computer projects are available in Rio de Janeiro (nicknamed A Cidade Maravilhosa - "The Marvelous City"). Heavily influenced by Portuguese culture, Brazil is renown for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, paved with decorated black and cream swirl pattern mosaics. Most of its cities offer an urban mosaic and amenities you would expect from any city.
Volunteers can organize different possible excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during weekends. For example: architecture, museums, city tours, water falls, Amazon rain forests, soccer, festivals, restaurants, art, music, hotels, and much more.
